Behind the Seams

Max was a curious little puppy with soft brown ears and a nose that never stopped sniffing. One sunny morning, Max’s owner, Emma, opened the front door to greet a delivery driver. Max saw a flash of movement, smelled something new and exciting, and—ZOOM!—he darted out the door.

“Max! Come back!” Emma called, but Max was already on the move.

Max’s little paws carried him down the street, past tall houses and busy shops, until he came to a giant building. It smelled like wool, glue, and… yarn? A big sign read: “Stitch & Seam Carpet Factory – Authorized Personnel Only.” Max couldn’t read. He only knew the smell was wonderful. He slipped under a gate and trotted inside.

Inside, the factory buzzed and hummed. Workers pushed carts full of colorful yarn. Machines spun like giant tops, weaving yarn into soft carpet rolls. Max’s eyes grew wide. “Bow-wow!” he barked in delight.

A long strip of green carpet slid past Max on a conveyor belt. He sniffed it curiously… and then—WHOOSH! The belt started moving faster! Max hopped on and rode it like a magic carpet through the factory.

The belt carried Max past enormous spools of thread, tall enough to touch the ceiling. A worker leaned down and spotted him. “Hey! There’s a puppy on the line!” she laughed. She scooped Max up and scratched behind his ears..

The kind worker carried Max through the factory, showing him all the steps of carpet-making: Tufting needles stitching yarn into patterns, Huge dye vats swirling colors like a rainbow, Carpet being trimmed, rolled, and wrapped for delivery. Max’s nose twitched with every sniff. This was the most exciting place he’d ever seen!

“Let’s get you home, buddy,” the worker said kindly. She carried Max outside to a delivery truck. The driver smiled. “Looks like we’ve got a special passenger today!” Max curled up in a soft roll of carpet and drifted off to sleep.

When Max woke up, he was home! Emma was waiting on the front porch, tears in her eyes. “Oh, Max! I was so worried!” she said, hugging him tight. Max licked her cheek and wagged his tail furiously.

That afternoon, Emma led Max inside. The living room was covered with soft, brand-new carpet. Max sniffed it and barked with joy. He knew that smell! This was the very carpet he’d seen being made at the Stitch & Seam Carpet Factory. Max rolled onto his back, wiggling happily. Not only was he safe at home, but he had a cozy new carpet to nap on—a carpet he’d seen behind the seams.
